WHO WE AREThe Jackson River District Partnership is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the planning, development, stewardship, and activation of public spaces in and around Jackson's riverfront. Through partnerships with public agencies, community organizations, businesses, philanthropic institutions, and residents, the organization works to advance parks, trails, conservation, green infrastructure, public art, programming, and other investments that create a healthier, greener, and more connected capital city.
Riverfront Park as an Economic Catalyst
Riverfront Park is envisioned as the anchor of a broader River District connecting downtown Jackson with the Pearl River. The River District Trail Connector will extend Jackson's growing trail network south from the Museum Trail and Capitol Green Connector toward Town Creek and Riverfront Park, creating a continuous pedestrian and bicycle connection between cultural institutions, businesses, neighborhoods, public spaces, and the river. Over time, investment in this public realm can support adaptive reuse, new development, tourism, and a more walkable urban district organized around access to nature.
Facilitating a Collaborative Planning Process
The vision for Riverfront Park builds upon years of local planning, advocacy, and community engagement. Riverfront access, parks, trails, and connected public spaces have emerged as recurring priorities through citywide planning efforts, including the City of Jackson's Strategic Framework Plan for Parks & Trails and the Jackson Rising community engagement process, which brought together more than 300 residents and community organizations over three months. Riverfront Park creates an opportunity to translate those priorities into public investment and demonstrate how community driven planning can lead to improvements in quality of life.
Outdoor Recreation as Public Health Infrastructure
Riverfront Park expands access to free, year round opportunities for walking, running, bicycling, paddling, nature exploration, and outdoor gathering in the heart of Mississippi's capital city. Connected to Jackson's growing network of parks and trails, the park is designed to make outdoor recreation and physical activity more accessible as part of everyday life. In a state facing significant chronic disease and health disparities, investment in safe, connected outdoor spaces represents an investment in the physical, mental, and social health of the community.
Conservation through Public Access
Conservation and public access are intentionally integrated throughout Riverfront Park. Trails, wetlands, overlooks, river access, native landscapes, and environmental education create opportunities for people to experience the ecology of the Pearl River while supporting the protection of the landscape itself. By bringing people closer to the river, the project creates a stronger constituency for its stewardship and demonstrates how conservation can become part of everyday urban life rather than something experienced only in remote natural areas.
